Who I Am

Me

Hello my name is Daniel and I more or less started this blog to give myself an outlet to talk about whatever comes to mind. I’m not much of a writer and I would not be to surprised if you find a few grammatical errors here and there.

I’m trying something new, I hope you enjoy what I have to talk about and may it somehow give someone a new perspective on life, that’s what I’m hoping for at least.

I was born at the end of 1983 in a town called Lincoln, in the state of Nebraska. From early on we learned the basics such as the best way to watch corn grow while our pet cows walk around in our front yards. To top that off we were never exposed to any other type of music other than country music.

I grew up listening to rap music, I think Kris Kross was the first group I listened to before graduating to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Totally Krossed Out was my first album on cassette tape and E.1999 Eternal was my first album on compact disc.

I was born with a physical disability which did not go over to well in elementary and middle school. Everyone has or had a bad time in middle school, my disability just gave everyone a reason to pick on me. I was just making it worse by trying to fit in with people who I didn’t fit with.

My home life was fairly good, my mom was also born with the same disability as me, which is why I have it. she worked as a receptionist. My dad had a job as a mechanical engineer without any college degree, he just got lucky and fell into it.

At the end of 1998 I moved to Washington State because he was offered a job from the same guy he used to work with in Nebraska.

Washington State is now a place I call home. I spent the majority of my young adult life in the state of Washington. You know, those crucial years where everyone figures out who they are.

People in school were no longer making fun of me, mainly because they grew up, but also because I was not trying to fit in with everyone. I became a fairly normal kid, which to me was pretty damn popular. High school was by far the most social time of my life.

Washington State gave me the best 15 years of my life. While living there I had a son, who later moved away from me. Years later I met my girlfriend while she was going to a university in Tacoma, Washington. My girlfriend was born in Portland, Oregon, because of that I also spent a lot of weekends in Oregon.

I’m now 30 and recently, in mid 2013, moved back to Nebraska. My girlfriend came with me, I was gone from the state for so long that I forgot what it was like to have a 105 degree day with a humid heat that causes your shirt to stick to you just by standing outside for a minute or less. I also forgot what it was like to have it snow more than once a year.

My kid now lives in Florida with his mom. Update: He is back in Washington, but still lives with his mom.

I moved back to Nebraska to take an entry-level engineering job that no longer exists, so I’m kinda stuck in this state trying to find a job while living at my parents house.

The number 253 in my blog title is the area code for Tacoma, Washington. 402 is the area code for Lincoln, Nebraska. I’m either a Nebraska resident who loves Washington or a Washington resident stuck in Nebraska. Update: I’m now married and live in Oregon.

    1. So far, not really, however it is better. I had a phone prescreen a day ago. I don’t think they will be calling me back though, they asked questions I was not prepared for, so I ended up sounding like an idiot. But things are working out, Nebraska does a better job then Washington ever did at helping a disabled person find a job.

      1. Sounding positive, which is good….I always thought Washington State would be a nice place to visit (from Australia, so not likely)….I have an almost 21 year old son, he has Autism and also finds job hunting difficult. I am sure he could relate to your feeling like an idiot quote, he does not do well in interviews! Good luck!

  1. And thank you for following my blog!

After no less than three new spam followers within hours of putting that damn post up, I actually swore when your activity on my blog flashed across.

So imagine what a pleasant surprise it was to find out you were a real person not trying to sell anything, pump up his stats, or “phish” for more data on other sick and disabled people to prey on!

Hope you have a great day. πŸ™‚
